GM establishes $4.5B inventory financing facility to hedge supply chain disruption risk

General Motors has executed a Master IPU (Irrevocable Payment Undertaking) Agreement with Procura Auto Parts LLC that enables the company to pre-fund critical inventory with supplier partners using proceeds from a bank syndicate led by JPMorgan Chase and Banco Santander. The $4.5 billion facility is structured as a supply chain financing program designed to insulate production from disruption events including cyberattacks, extreme weather, natural disasters, and demand volatility. This is a material structural shift: rather than rely on just-in-time supply, GM is formalizing working capital into inventory buffers at the supplier tier, treating inventory pre-positioning as a supply chain resilience requirement rather than optional optimization.
